The IB/IGB initiative started with a landscape study commissioned by GIZ in November 2023 to be published in February 2025. On 22 November 2023 the strategic recommendations  of the private sector led, government owned and development partners supported IB/IGB initiative study were endorsed thorough a tripartite agreement between AGI, the Ministry of Trade and Industries (MoTI) and the GIZ. In December 2024 GIZ and AGI signed a cooperation agreement with initial funding for business coaching and other works under the IB/IGB initiative. The strategic recommendations call for a dedicated institutional framework  with an IB/IGB secretariat, 3 committees (for accreditation, business coaching, and company investments), a multistakeholder Board of Directors as well as champions and focal points in various institutions to implement the IB/IGB initiative. After 4 stakeholder workshops in June 2024 and the first IB/IGB national Forum for Ghana in October 2024, the first IB/IGB company accreditation (and award) , was done in November 2024, the first round of certification of business coaches under the impact-drivereturn approach (IDR-BCM) is planned for February 2025 , and a working group to design the Risk Reduction and Social Innovation Fund (RRSIF) , for co-investing with impact investors in IB/IGB deals is being set up by the Venture Capital Trust Fund (VCTF) under the Ministry of Finance (MoF) in January 2025.
