Transforming Social Enterprises into IB/IGB Initiatives

Social enterprise and IB/IGB are not the same. The difference is scale, systemic change, and commercial viability.

IB/IGB differs from social enterprise initiatives in scale, in systemic change, and in commercial viability. A social enterprise can put impact first and still be for-profit. An IB/IGB line has to do that at a scale that changes the system, and it has to be commercially viable so that the result lasts.

Chart 4 names the bridge. An IB/IGB initiative is a for-profit social enterprise together with a small inclusive business. Real IB/IGB companies and potential ones both matter, because the program is a transformation path and not only a label for firms that have already arrived.

Companies on that path can be coached. Nine official Impact-Drives-Return transformations were delivered with the funding available in 2025, and four of those became deep dives. Readiness discussions were held with about 30 further firms. The coaching route is described under IDR-BCM.
